Secretary-1 inspects preparations for Seventh
Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing Arts
Competition
YANGON, 20 Oct - Patron of Leading Committee for
the Seventh Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing
Arts Competition Secretary-l of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,
accompanied by officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, arrived at the
National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road at 3.30 pm
today.
Then, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected
preparations for reception ceremony, opening
ceremony and dance competition at the theatre.
Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party went
to the National Museum on Pyay Road and inspected
preparations for singing competition at the
museum.
The Secretary-l gave instructions.
Later, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party
proceeded to Padonma Theatre in Sangyoung Township
and inspected preparations for music competition
at the theatre.
The Secretary-1 and party then inspected
preparations for composing competition at Kanbawza
Yeiktha at Fine Arts Department on Kaba Aye Pagoda
Road and left there in the evening.

(2) K-140-million Nyaunggaing Dam opened to irrigate
3,000 acres, develop west bank of Ayeyawady River
YANGON, 20 Oct - Nyaunggaing Dam in Padaung
Township, Bago Division, was commissioned into
service today, with an address by Secretary-2 of
the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin
Oo.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin
Oo said.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 and party
visited the Bago Division Peace and Development
Council Office (Western Branch).
The Secretary-2 gave suggestions.
In Monyo Township, the Secretary-2 and party met
with departmental personnel and sought means for
regional development.
The Secretary-2 spoke of the need to upgrade the
existing roads and to build new ones for the
progress of the township.
They arrived back here at 4.20 pm.

(3) National Convention Convening Commission meets
YANGON, 20 Oct - National Convention Convening
Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall of
NCCC Office at 2 pm today.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of NCCC
Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and commission members.
Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin made a speech at the
meeting.

(4) Minister inspects building of tower for GSM system
YANGON, 20 Oct - Minister for Communications,
Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected
building of a tower for GSM Cellular Telephone
System in the compound of Dagon Township
Communications Station on U Wisara Road this
morning.
Officials concerned reported to the minister on
GSM system and the construction work.
The minister gave instructions.

(5) Minister for Industry-1 meets Ambassador
of Germany, GMs
YANGON, 20 Oct - Minister for Industry-l U Aung
Thaung met Ambassador of Federal Republic of
Germany Dr Marius Haas at his office at 1 pm
today.
The minister also met General Manager of Property
Development and Construction Division Mr Susumu
Takaku of Overseas Planning and Development
Business Department of Mitsui & Co Ltd, Japan at
1.45 pm.
He also met General Manager of Mitsubishi
Corporation Mr S Yamanokuchi and party who called
at his office at 2.30 pm.
Also present at the call were Deputy Ministers for
Industry-l and Managing Directors and
Directors-General and Head of Office.

(6) Air-conditioners for Kyaungsaung of member
Sayadaws of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee
YANGON, 20 Oct - In memory of Naingngangonyi Title
(Grade-l) Maha Thayaysithu Lecha Sawbwa-gyi and
wife, well-wishers Minister for Hotels and Tourism
Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and wife Daw Sao Kyi Mya and
family donated four air-conditioners for Ministry
of Religious Affairs at two-storey Kyaungsaung of
member Sayadaws of State Sangha Maha Nayaka
Committee on Kaba Aye Hill this afternoon.
Well-wishers Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and wife
Daw Sao Kyi Mya presented four air-conditioners
worth K 594,000 to Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa to
install at two-storey Kyaungsaung of member
Sayadaws of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee.
Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa presented a certificate
of honour to the donors.

(7) Chief Justice meets German Ambassador
YANGON, 20 Oct - Chief Justice U Aung Toe met
Ambassador of Germany Dr Marius Haas who called at
his office this morning.
Also present on the occasion were Director-General
of Supreme Court Office and Head of Office.

(8) Myanmar Horticulturists Association holds meeting
YANGON, 20 Oct - Myanmar Horticulturists
Association held a meeting at Pyidaungsu
Ayeyeiknyein Hall at the People's Square and
people's Park this afternoon.
Leader of the Panel of Leading Patrons of the
association Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe gave a speech.
Donations including K 220,000 by 44 members of the
Panel of Leading Patrons and Panel of Patrons were
presented to U Nyunt Pe.
Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented gifts to the
outstanding trainees.
Gifts were also presented to course instructors.

(9) Heroin, stimulant tablets seized in Phakant
YANGON, 20 Oct -A combined team comprising 4
members of regional intelligence unit, Myitkyina
Anti-drug Squad, local battalion and Myitkyina
District Police Station, acting on information,
searched Win Naing,38, son of U Po Shan, walking
on the sport ground of No 1 Ward, Seikmu Village,
Phakant Township and nabbed him together with
heroin weighing 0.5443 gram and 1200 stimulant
tablets bearing WY.
Acting on further information, the team searched
the house of Ma San Kyi, 28, daughter of U Aik Jar
of No I Ward, Seikmu Village, Phakant Township and
seized 17, 600 stimulant tablets.
Action is being taken against them under the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

(10) 203 members resign from Ngaputaw Township NLD
YANGON, 20 Oct - A ceremony to present letters of
resignation of 203 members of Ngaputaw Township
National League for Democracy, Ayeyawady Division,
was held at Pyinnya Yadanar Hall of Pyinkhayaing
Village in the township at 1 pm on 15 July 1999.
Two hundred and three members of Ngaputaw Township
NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition,
resigned by sending letters of resignation to the
party concerned on 15 July 1999 as they no longer
wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
Member of Ngaputaw Township NLD U Tin Thein on
behalf of the party members, explained about the
resignation from the party and handed over the
letters of resignation to Secretary of Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election
Sub-commission U Thaung Myint.
