Trawlers eye Aceh waters

Ranong fishermen whose concessions have been revoked by Burma are turning to
Indonesian fishing grounds for a long-term source of income.

Preecha Sakullerm, a fisheries operator, said the fishermen could no longer
shoulder the loss of income from the revocation and have asked SP Marketing
(Thailand), the company with fishing rights in Indonesia, for help.

Santhan Thipwajanakarn, deputy chairman of SP Marketing, has met with border
authorities to discuss ways to assist fishermen looking for new fishing
grounds. SP Marketing was awarded a concession by the Indonesian government
for extensive deep-sea and inshore fishing in the Aceh region on Mar 8 this
year.
