Myanmar police in big drug seizure
BANGKOK -- Two people were arrested after officials seized more than four
million amphetamine tablets in eastern Myanmar, state television has
reported.
A total of 4,248,000 tablets were seized on Oct 15 at a checkpoint near
Naungcho town in Shan state, about 700 km north-east of Yangon, it said.
The seizures had been made by a special anti-narcotics police unit and
military intelligence agents after they received a tip-off, TV Myanmar said
in a report monitored in Bangkok.
The amphetamines were hidden inside the body of a cargo truck and two men
had been charged with drug trafficking, it said. --AFP
