(1)   Secretary -1 attends Sixth Communal Kathina robes 
       offering ceremony of Myanmar Srilankayama Kyaungtaik

        
YANGON, 31 Oct-The Sixth Communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Myanmar 
Srilankayama Kyaungtaik was held at the Kyaungtaik in Natchaung Ward, Tamway 
Township, at 9 am today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and 
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party received the Five Precepts from 
member of the State Ovadacariya Myanmar Srilankayama Kyaungtaik Sayadaw Agga 
Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Naninda. Then, members of the Sangha recited the 
parittas.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party presented Kathina robes and alms to 
members of the Sangha. Afterwards, Myanmar Srilankayama Kyaungtaik Sayadaw 
Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Naninda delivered a sermon, followed by sharing 
of merits.

(2)   Performing Arts Competition continues
        
YANGON, 31 Oct-The Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts 
Competition continued for sixth day at the designated venues today.

The song competition was held at the National Theatre on Pyay Road in Dagon 
Township, the dance competition at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road 
and the music competition at Kanbawza Theatre on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in 
Bahan Township and Padonma Theatre on Bagaya Road in Sangyoung Township.

Present on the occasion were Patron of Organizing the Seventh Myanmar 
Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition secretary-1 of the State 
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and wife Dr Daw Khin Win 
Shwe, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Chairman of the Leading Committee for 
Organizing the Competition member of the State Peace and Development Council .

Professional level (women) religious song competition and Basic education 
level (15-20) (boys) modern and old songs event of the song competition will 
be held at the same venue on 1 November. 

Eight competitors of professional level took part in oboe competition at 
Kanbawza Theatre. Altogether five competitors took part in oboe event of 
basic education level (15-20) (boys) with the song ?Mya-yinanda?. Four 
competitors took part in oboe event of basic education level (10-15) (boys) 
with the song ?Sein-leh-1eh nyo-pyar?. 
    
On 1 November, professional and basic education level (15-20) and (5-10) 
violin competitions will be held at Kanbawza Theatre.Seven competitors 
participated in amateur level (women) xylophone competition and at Padonma 
Theatre. Nine competitors of basic education level (10-15) (girls) took part 
in xylophone competition.

Twelve competitors participated in basic education level (15-20) (men) 
xylophone competition at Padonma Theatre.On 1 November, professional level 
(women), amateur level (men), basic education level (5-10) (girls) and basic 
education level (10-15) (boys) piano competitions and professional level, 
basic education level (15-20) and basic education level (5-10) violin 
competition will be held at Padonma and Kanbawza Theatres.

(3)   Secretary-1 inspects construction of central  building at 
      International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University

    
YANGON, 31 Oct-Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen 
Khin Nyunt, accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development 
Council Office, arrived at the construction site of International Theravada 
Buddhist Missionary University at 3.40 pm today. They were welcomed by the 
ministers, heads of department and officials.


Officials of Public Works reported to the Secretary-l on progress on 
construction of central building of the University, renovation of interior 
building, arrangements for construction of fountain in front of the central 
building, construction of prayer tazaung Buddha Tooth Relic Pagoda and 
arrangement for construction of Dhammayon in Lumbini Park in Nepal.


The Secretary-l attended to their needs. The Secretary- 1 inspected 
construction of the central building and archway. Secretary Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt 
and party proceeded to Wizaya Mingala Dhamma Thabin on Thirimingala Kaba Aye 
Hill.


Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa explained matters pertaining to making CD-ROM of 
the Sixth Buddhist Synod Pitakat Palidaw written in Myanmar language and 
Video Tape on Life of Buddha.Then, President of Cooperative Syndicate No 1 
Ltd Daw Wah Wah Tun briefed the Secretary-1 on the progress of making the 
CD-ROM of the Sixth Buddhist Synod Pitakat Palidaw written in Myanmar 
language with the aid of computer.


Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected work for making the CD-ROM of the 
Sixth Buddhist Synod Pitakat Palidaw written in Myanmar language and Video 
Tape on Life of Buddha. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs 
and left there in the evening.

(4)   Minister for Energy meets former Minister of Finance of Thailand

    
YANGON, 31 Oct-Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi met former Minister of 
Finance of Thailand Chairman Dr Surakiait Sathirathai of the Board of PTT 
Exploration and Production Public Co Ltd who called at his office this 
evening.

(5)   Work coordinated for development of border areas 
       in Kachin State


YANGON, 31 Oct-Work Committee for Development of Border Areas in Kachin State 
held Meeting No 2/99 at the city hall in Myitkyina on 25 October morning.


Present at the meeting were Chairman of Work Committee for Development of 
Border Areas in Kachin State Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win 
Deputy Commander Col San Tun and military officers, Secretary of Kachin State 
Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myint Thein and members,. On the 
occasion, the commander made a speech.


Maj Soe Tint reported on measures taken by Work Committee for development of 
border areas.Then, a general round of discussions followed. The meeting ended 
with concluding remarks by the commander.

(6)   Minister for Commerce inspects Warehouse 
       No 15 in Pazundaung


YANGON, 31 Oct-Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, accompanied by Deputy 
Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Managing Director of Myanma 
Agricultural Produce Trading U Saw Aung and officials, arrived at Warehouse 
No 15 in Pazundaung Township this evening.General Manager Lt-Col Soe Tint 
reported to the minister on storage of crops. The minister gave instructions 
to officials.


Then, Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone inspected the warehouse. The minister gave 
instructions to officials on storage of crops in the warehouse, quality of 
crops, renovation of warehouses, preparation for crops damage, greening of 
its environment and extension of agriculture and livestock breeding work for 
staff welfare.

(7)   Myanmar youth delegation leaves for Singapore


YANGON, 31 Oct-A 32member Myanmar youth delegation left here yesterday for 
Singapore to participate in the 26th South-East Asia Youths Voyage sponsored 
Youth Affairs Management and Cooperation Agency of Office of the Prime 
Minister of Japan.The delegation was seen off at the airport by CEC member of 
the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Than Shwe and U Thein 
Sein, officials of Japanese Embassy, officials of USDA and relatives. 

They will also meet youths from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, 
the Philippines and Japan and discuss role of youths.

(8)   Minister for I&P inspects departmental work in Bago


YANGON, 31 Oct - Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, 
accompanied by off1cials, met with chairmen and members of Thayawady District 
and Township Peace and Development Councils, district-level departmental 
officials, executives of District and Township USDAs and office of Thayawady 
District Immigration and National Registration Department in Thayawady, Bago 
Division, on 29 October. 


Then, the minister and party inspected Kyangin Township Immigration and 
National Registration Department in Kyangin. Ayeyawady Division, and gave 
instructions on work.

(9)   Commander inspects construction works in Dawei


YANGON, 31 Oct-Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council 
Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen - Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, 
accompanied by Brig-Gen Maung Oo of Dawei Station, Secretary of Division 
Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Maung Nyo and departmental 
officials, inspected the construction of Bonmaw Bridge on the ring road in 
Dawei on 28 October mooning, and gave instructions on works.


Then, the commander and party inspected the- construction of Dawei Degree 
College. Division Superintending Engineer U Myint Aung and officials reported 
on construction of the college and hostels and building of the ring road 
around the college.


The commander gave instructions on timely completion of construction works, 
minimizing loss and wastage and greening of the compus of the college. Then, 
the commander inspected the construction works.Afterwards, the commander and 
party went to Dawei People?s Hospital, and inspected a new two-storey 
building (50-bed).


In the afternoon, the commander met with division and district level 
departmental officials in the meeting hall of Division Peace and Development 
Council, and gave instructions on extension of agricultural work in the 
region, cultivation of industrial crops, improvement of transport, education 
and health and coordination among departments.

(10)   CEC member accepts 8,269 USDA membership applications 
           of national races in Kachin State
    

YANGON, 31 Oct - A ceremony to submit membership applications of Union 
Solidarity and Development Association  of national races was held in Seinle 
Yadana Hall of Monyin, Kachin State, on 29 October.On the occasion, member of 
the Central Executive Committee of USDA U Aung Thaung accepted 350 USDA 
membership applications of Kachin nationals and 630 of Shan nationals.


Then, CEC member U Aung Thaung made a speech, and had a cordial meeting with 
national races. Member of the Central Committee of War Veteran Organization U 
Aung Thaung met with members of the executive committee of Monyin Township 
War Veteran Organization at the regional battalion in Monyin, and attended to 
their requirements. Yesterday, CEC member U Aung Thaung attended the opening 
of Accountancy Course No 3 and Kachin Language Course No 1 sponsored Monyin 
Township USDA.

(11)  Myanmar health delegation arrives back from Malaysia


YANGON, 31 Oct-A Myanmar health delegation led by Deputy Minister for Health 
Dr Mya Oo arrived back here from Malaysia this evening by air after attending 
the 5th Conference on Prevention and Control of AIDS of Countries in Asia and 
the Pacific Region held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 23 to 27 October. 


The delegation members were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by 
Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, directors-general of departments under 
the ministry, officials and families. Deputy Director-General Dr Soe Aung of 
Health Department and Manager Dr Myint Zaw of AIDS Control Project who were 
the delegation members also arrived back on the same flight.

(12)  Deputy Minister inspects development works


YANGON, 31 Oct - Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National 
Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, together with officials, met with 
the director of Ayeyawady Division Development Affairs Department, members of 
Township Development Affairs Supervisory Committee and employees of 
Department Affairs Department at the office of Kyangin Township Peace and 
Development Council in Kyangin, Ayeyawady Division, on 29 October morning. 

The deputy minister gave instructions on urban and rural development works, 
and inspected the development affairs office, the nursery, the market and the 
park.


The deputy minister also met with the chairman of Township Peace and 
Development Council, the development affairs executive officer, engineers and 
employees at the office of Township Development Affairs Department in 
Myanaung. The deputy minister gave instructions on the tasks of development 
affairs, and inspected parks, vehicles and machinery, markets and streets.


In the afternoon, the deputy minister arrived at Ingapu, and gave 
instructions on regional development works to members of Township Development 
Affairs Supervisory Committee and employees of Development Affairs Department 
at the development affairs office.

(13)  Ninth communal kathina of State Peace and Development 
         Council Office, Pyithu Hluttaw Office and President?s Office held


YANGON, 31 Oct-The families of the State Peace and Development Council 
Office, the Pyithu Hluttaw Office and the President?s Office held the ninth 
communal kathina robes offering ceremony at Aletawya Sanpya Pariyatti 
Sarthintaik on Dhammazedi Road in Bahan Township this morning.


Presiding Sayadaw of Aletawya Sanpya Pariyatti Sarthintaik Agga Maha Pandita 
Bhaddanta Silasarabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts and members of the 
Sangha recited the Parittas.

(14)  1,053 NLD members collectively resign from nine village-tracts 
         in Taungtha Township


YANGON, 31 Oct-A total-of 1,053 members from nine village-tracts in Taungtha 
Township resigned from National League for Democracy. Altogether 1053 members 
of NLD of nine Villagetract-Legwatgyi, Khatetgon, Tegyigon, Ywathit, 
Thaputsu, Kine, Myinde, Hsimikan and Pakhet in Taungtha Township, of their 
own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to the party 
concerned as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

A ceremony to collectively present letters of resignation to Taungtha 
Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission was held at the 
Town Hall of the township on 25 October. 
U Shwe, on behalf of 1,053 party members, presented resignations to Chairman 
U Yin Htwe of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission. 
Nine representatives; from nine village-tracts, on behalf of party members, 
explained the reasons and declared the nine village-tracts as party-free 
areas.
