Villages Along Thai Border Ordered To Prepare War for Junta
Village headmen in across the border from Chiangmai had recently been
instructed to prepare defenses and rice for the military, said Maihoong
from eastern Shan State.

On Monday 1 November, 108 village and tract headmen in Mongton Township,
Monghsat District, Eastern Shan State, gathered at the Mongton town
hall.
The meeting was presided by Ltc. Myint Sway, Commander, IB 65 and Ltc.
Pan
Lay, Commander, IB 226.

"Col. Myint Sway told the headmen:
a. each village to deliver 30 fence stakes, each 3 spans in
circumference
and 4 cubits in length, by 15 November;

b. Monghang and Maeken tracts to deliver dried bricks 3,000 and 7,000
respectively by 5 December;

c. Other tracts i.e. Phakhae, Nawngpayen, Wanna, Hwe-aw and Poongpakhem
to
dig foxholes along the highway from BP-1 to Mongton, Monghsat and
Tasang,
each one 2 cubits deep and 4 fathoms distant from one another, to be
completed by 30 November", said Maihoong.
In addition, Col. Pan Lay reminded the villagers to sell their new
harvest
in accordance with the quota and price already fixed since October, or
they
would face punishment by confiscation of their paddy fields, which would
be
turned over to immigrants over from Burma (Proper), added Maihoong.

A border watcher commented that the Burmese Army might be preparing for
war
either with the Shan State Army of Yawdserk or "a neighboring country".
