Asking Money by the Burmese Soldiers at the gate
According to Thai Government policy, the Burmese
migrant workers who have been working in Mae Sot, are ceaselessly forced
to repatriate since 2 of November, 99. It is now up to 8 day. There are
about 100,000 workers in Mae Sot, and all of them have been facing a lot
of difficulties because of no policy in Burmese regime to accept them. In
addition, also relating to the information of 5 November 99, the junta
had ordered the soldiers to collect taxes more than before along the
Thai-Burma border, so, they were asking 1,100 kyat for each person for
entrance. The workers who are not able to pay money for the trip, they
have to sell their belongings such as clothes, ear rings and etc=85.This
behavior of the military regime made us surprised upon the unwilling to
accept for returning of own people to motherland, and more miserable due
to seeking only for interest of the soldiers.
