Group clashes in Nagaland

Tension mounted in Nagaland following heavy exchange of fire between
NSCN(I-M) and NSCN(K) activists deep inside jungle.

Police suspected heavy casualties on both sides during the 12-hour-long
drama in the midst of a jungle adjacent to Jotsam village, about eight
km
from Kohima. Police said heavily armed NSCN(I-M) activists attacked the
NSCN(K) camps, shifted from the periphery of Jotsoma village recently
following the request of local villagers. Sounds of grenade lobbing,
mortar shelling and firing from sophisticated weapons from both sides
could be
heard from the Kohima Science College junction. Local villagers could
hear shouts of the activists, besides sounds of heavy exchange of fire.
Intermittent group clashes were reported between the two in the area, a
stronghold of NSCN(K), with NSCN(I-M) trying to make inroads in the
area.
