1129-01 Myanmar Ministers To Manila
**Myanmar's Foreign and ASEAN Economic Affair Minister left for Manila, the
Philippines on 25th November to attend the Special Joint Ministerial
meeting of ASEAN Foreign Economic ministers held there on 26th November.

Myanmar's Finance minister is also in Manila to attend the meeting.
Economic cooperation and implementation of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA)
process are expected to be high on agenda during the meeting.

1129-02 Wood Substitute Fuel Exhibition In Yangon
**Committee for utilizing wood substitute fuel organized an exhibition in
Yangon on 25th November.

The exhibition displayed briquette manufacturing machines, production of
briquette from raw materials and machines to produce solar fuel. Myanmar
designated 1999 as the year to extend the use of wood substitute fuel.

1129-03 De La Rue Cash Management System In Myanmar
**A seminar on cash management, sponsored by Myanmar Bank Association and
UE Myanmar Limited was held in Yangon's Traders Hotel on 25th November.

Mr.Ben Thorpe and Mr.Fergus Graham of De La Rue (England) discussed on
monetary management and explained matters pertaining to De La Rue Equipment
in the seminar.

Myanmar banks are extensively using De La Rue cash-counting machines
distributed by UE Myanmar Company.

1129-04 Talks On Oil & Gas Exploration
**Secretary of Myanma Investment Commission met on 25th November with the
Vice-President of Unocal Asia-Pacific Venture Ltd in Yangon.

Unocal is one of the 15 multi-national oil companies operating in Myanmar.
It is engaged in drilling a number of appraisal wells in the Gulf of
Mottama, in southern Myanmar, resulting in discovery of Yadanar gas field.
The natural gas found from that field is exported to Thailand through a
submarine pipeline.

1129-05 Machinery For Acetylene Factory
**Myanmar's Heavy Industries Ministry bought machinery for its acetylene
factory from India.

The machinery worth over US$ 90,000 arrived at Yangon port on 26th
November. Myanmar's Heavy Industries have various manufacturing plants
ranging from motor vehicles and its accessories to heavy farm machinery.

1129-06 Discussion On Hydro Power Plant
**Director General of Yunnan's Machine Building Bureau met in Yangon on
24th November with Myanmar Electrical Power Minister.

The main discussion during the meeting was on a 600-Megawatt hydro power
plant construction project in Myanmar's Mandalay province undertaken by the
Chinese provincial bureau.

China's CITIC Technology Company is also assisting Myanmar Electrical
Ministry in construction of two hydro power plants in upper Myanma Sagaing
province.

1129-07 Myanmar Last Week
**Last week's business summary:

1. China-Myanmar Economic Cooperation Enhancing Committee met last week in
Yangon to discuss the speeding up of joint China-Myanmar industrial
cooperation works
in Myanmar. China is carrying out construction of hydroelectric powers
plants in Myanmar's Bago and Mon provinces, a paper mill in Mandalay, a
container yard in Myanmar's north-western Saging province and a dock yard
in Yangon as well as the farm machinery production and mining amongst
other.

2. Last week a new TV retransmission station was commissioned into service
in Myanmar's Ayeyawady province. With the assistance of the new
retransmission station the local population will get greater access to
Myanmar as well as international TV channels.

3.List of foreign potential investors who visited Yangon during last week.
3.1Japan's Ko Ko Ro Co Ltd officials are in Yangon and met with Myanmar
Commerce Minister.
3.2 General Manager of (H.E) Elite Finance Limited of Hong Kong met in
Yangon with the Secretary of Myanma Investment Commission.
3.3 Managing Director of Singapore's Asia-Pacific Bulk Terminal (Holding)
Ltd met in Yangon with the head of Myanma Investment Commission.
