Myanmar Rebels Deny Threat to President's Wife

AIZAWL, DEC 3 (PTI) : Chin National Front (CNF), a Myanmarese (Chin)
rebel group
fighting for democracy in that country today denied that Usha Narayanan,
wife of the president was in their hit list.

Reacting to reports in some section of the National Press (The Times of
India) that the CNF threatened Usha Narayanan, Information and Publicity
Secretary, CNF Headquarters, Khar Mang said repeat Khar Mang told PTI
here
that the story was baseless with malicious intention to discredits the
organization.

There are no Thang Zo and Sangitali in the CNF cadres as reported in the
press and there are no CNF activists in any of Mizoram jails, Khar Mang
said.

He said it is a fact that they always appreciated India support for the
return of democracy in Myanmar but had never approach the Indian
President
wife, who originally hailed from Myanmar personally.

He accused Myanmar military junta and its machineries of spreading
misinformation to discredit the movement for democracy in that country.

The Times of India, in its report from Chennai today said the CNF
threated
the life of Usha Narayanan during her visit along with her husband,
president between December six and nine.
