1203-01 Asia & Pacific Rural Development Meeting In Yangon
**Executive Committee meeting of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development
for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) opened in Yangon on 30th November.

Myanmar's Agriculture Minister in his opening address to the meeting,
stressed on the importance of CIRDAP's role in the development of rural
areas.

Delegations from 14 CIRDAP member nations (Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,
the Philippines, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, Fiji,
Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Indonesia) attended the first day of the
meeting.

75% of the total Myanmar population resides in rural areas and majority of
them are engaged in agricultural and other agricultural related activities,
which contribute to the nation's economy.

1203-02 Thai Economic Delegation Visits Myanmar
**A high-level Thai Economic delegation led by Thai Deputy Commerce
Minister has arrived in Yangon on 30th November.

The Thai Economic team met with Myanmar Commerce Ministry officials on the
same day in Yangon to talk on bilateral trade issues.

1203-03 Myanmar Official To IT Conference In Singapore
**Secretary of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce left Yangon on 30th November for
Singapore.

Myanmar official will attend the three days conference on Information
Technology under the sponsorship of ZDH Partnership Programme to be held in
Singapore from 1st to 3rd of this month.

The development of IT technology in the ASEAN region was given special
emphasis this month at the ASEAN summit in Manila, the Philippines.

1203-04 Talks On ASEAN-Pakistan Trade Promotion
**Head of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce met in Yangon on 30th November with
Charge d'Affairs ai of Pakistan to Myanmar.

Myanmar official and the Pakistani diplomat had talks on sending Myanmar
trade delegation to the ASEAN-Pakistan Business Council meeting to be held
in Pakistan during February, 2000.

1203-05 Chinese Entrepreneurs Talk On River Transport
**Myanmar's Transportation Minister met in Yangon on 30th November with the
visiting President of Yunnan Machinery & Equipment Import and Export
Corporation.

The discussion during the meeting was mainly on Yunnan-Myanmar joint
project on construction of container port in the upper Myanmar town of
Bhamo in order to facilitate for conveying the goods from Yunnan province
to Yangon through Ayeyawady River.

1203-06 Myanmar Statistics
**Every Friday Myabuzz will feature figures related to investment & trade.

1. A sluice gate was commissioned into service in Maubin town in Myanmar's
southwestern Ayeyawady province last week. The sluice gate is capable of
irrigating over 15,000 acre of land and was built at the cost of Kyats 134
million (US$418,750). Myanmar's Agriculture Ministry is building another 4
dams in the province, which will be capable of irrigating over 120,000
acres of agricultural land.

2. Myanmar's Timber Enterprise will sell over 400 tons of teak and hard
wood through sealed tender on 30th November.

3.       Vice-President of Unocal Asia-Pacific Venture Ltd was in Yangon
last week and met Myanma Investment Commission officials to talk on the
company's current project in exploring oil and natural gas in Myanmar.
Unocal is one of the 15 multi-national oil companies operating in Myanmar.
It is engaged in drilling a number of appraisal wells in the Gulf of
Mottama, in southern Myanmar, resulting in discovery of Yadanar gas field.
The natural gas found from that gas field is exported to Thailand through
the submarine pipeline, which can facilitate for sending over 750 millions
cu-ft per day of gas. The total expected yearly income from this project
will be around USD 150 millions.
