1214-01 Japanese Merchants To Buy Buckwheat
**19 Japanese entrepreneurs led by the Chairman of Japan Noodle Association
visited Myanmar's northeast buckwheat growing region from 10 to 12 December.

Japanese entrepreneurs had discussion on buckwheat sale with the local
buckwheat growers and merchants.

With the Japanese assistance Myanmar's northeast region has grown buckwheat
in large scale. The region also has a buckwheat seed purifying factory.

1214-02 Myanmar Spirulina For Export
**Myanmar's Light Industries Ministry plans to export over 80 metric ton of
Spirulina during the coming year.

Myanmar Spirulina finds export market in Germany, Belgium, China,
Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

Spirulina is mainly used in manufacturing multi-vitamin tablets and other
medicines.
The Myanmar Light Industries Ministry is expected to produce over 200
metric tons of Spirulina next year.

1214-03 Myanmar To Participate IN FOODEX 2000
**Myanmar processed food will be put on display at the FOODEX 2000 to be
held in Tokyo from March 7-10, 2000.

The Yangon branch office of Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) is
the organizing committee on behalf of Myanmar business institutions.

FOODEX 2000 is the largest and most significant food and beverage trade
show in the Asia Pacific Rim. Exhibits from over 57 nations are expected to
turn up for next year's event.

1214-04 Talks On ASEAN Free Trade
**Myanmar's ASEAN Economic Affairs Minister met in Yangon on 10th December
with the visiting official of Germany's GC German Consult Rintein.

The officials had discussion on Myanmar's role in implementing the ASEAN
Free Trade Area (AFTA) amongst other topics.

1214-05 Australian Company To Advise On Canola Cultivation
**Hulie Trading Company from Australia's New South Wales Province holds a
workshop on canola oil seed cultivation in Yangon last Friday.

Myanmar officials and Australian experts coordinated on the oil seed
growing in Myanmar.

Myanmar recently imported canola oil seed species from Australia. Myanmar's
Mandalay and Shan provinces are growing canola oil seed on commercial
scale.

1214-06 Travel Fair Preparations for New Millennium
**Myanmar tourism authorities are organizing to stage a travel fair in
Yangon to promote Myanmar tourism in the coming millennium.

Leading Myanmar hotels and travel agencies are expected to participate in
the 3 days travel fair starting 31st December.

1214-07 Companies In Brief
**Every Tuesday Myabuzz will include news about companies operating in

1. Myanmar branch of the Singapore's Dumex Company held a medical seminar
in Yangon. The company launched its latest innovated child nutrition food
"Dumex 3 Plus" to Myanmar market.

2. Myanmar's leading soft drinks manufacturer, Myanmar Golden Star (MGS)
Company launched a new soft drink brand in Myanmar.

3. Asia Wealth Bank (AWB), a leading Myanmar private bank is introduced
the new range of traveler's cheques in the country last week. The bank has
introduced three types of cheques initially, which can be cashed in its
branches nationwide. The bank has branches in most of the Myanmar
commercial towns.
