A Rangoon-to-Mandalay train and a Pegu local train collided at about 2200
[local time] last Friday [17th December]. Many passengers were injured and
between 70 to 100 persons were believed to have been killed in the collision.
The Rangoon-Mandalay express train was travelling at the speed of 50
miles per hour and collided head-on with the Pegu train near Ywathagyi.

The SPDC [State Peace and Development Council] newspapers, radio,
