1216-01 ASEAN Immigration Meet Concludes
**The ASEAN Immigration Departments Director General meeting concluded in
Yangon on 14th December.

The meeting resolved to set up an ad hoc high-level experts group on
Immigration matters.  The Philippines will host next year's meeting.

1216-02 Investors Delegation From HK
**A 17-member business delegation led by the Chairman of Hong Kong's
Association of International Investment is in Yangon and met on 14th
December with the Myanmar ASEAN Economic Affairs Minister.

Both sides discussed investment potentials in Myanmar as well as on
mutually beneficial business issues.

Hong Kong has large-scale investments in Myanmar's textile sector.
According to the latest account of the Myanma Investment Commission, Hong
Kong companies have invested over US$ 120 million in Myanmar.

1216-03 Commercial Tower In Yangon
**Myanmar's Hotel & Tourism Minister met on 13th December with the Managing
Director of Japan's Hopeson Co. Ltd in Yangon.

The Japanese company is constructing a commercial tower in Yangon's
Business district.

1216-04 Air Mandalay's Promo Rates Announced
**A leading Myanmar private airline Air Mandalay announced on 14th December
the promotion airfare for its two routes.

The airline has announced about 30% reduction in its Yangon-Mandalay and
Yangon-Sittwe routes. The promotion period is from December 15 to April
30th next year.

Air Mandalay is a joint venture civil aviation company established between
Myanmar Airways Int'l (MAI) and Singapore's Air Mandalay Holding Ltd.

1216-05 Toshiba Officials In Yangon
**Myanmar's Light Industries Minister met on 13th December in Yangon with
the visiting Vice-President of Japan's Toshiba Corporation.

Toshiba has large-scale business interests in Myanmar. The company is
constructing a TV and VCR assembly plant, and will start production soon.

1216-06 Training On Data Collection By S'pore Govt.
**A one-week training on data collection and statistical analysis begun in
Yangon on 13 December.

45 Myanmar trainees from various Ministries attended the training jointly
organized by the Singapore Myanmar Ministerial Working Committee.

1216-07 Ministry News
**Every Thursday, Myabuzz features Ministry News.  This will tackle issues
in the preceding week (with emphasis on business and investment news) in
the various ministries in the country.
1. Myanmar energy ministry experts started the work for exploring new gas
field near the upper Myanmar town of Ngazun, about 30 km from Mandalay.
Myanmar's energy experts found two new gas fields in Myanmar's Ayeyawady
and Yangon provinces last month.

2. Myanmar's Ministry of Transportation and World Seismic Safety Initiative
held seminar on seismology in Yangon last week.

3. Myanmar's Light Industries Ministry announced last week, its plan to
build a soap factory in the central Myanmar town of Magwe, about 400 km
from Yangon. Myanmar's Light Industries Ministry is currently under taking
the construction of a soap factory in Mandalay, which is expected to be
operational by the end of February next year. The factory's daily
production capacity will be around 400 tons.
