(1) Multimedia Teaching Centre Opened at No.1 BEHS in Thanlyin
A ceremony to open multimedia teaching centre was
held at No.1Basic Education High School in Thanlyin
township on 9 January, attended by Chairman of Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. The Secretary-1
and party observed computerized media section, audio
visual teaching section, study room ( listening and
reading), educational broadcasting service centre,
music room, drawing room and domestic science rooms.
He also inspected skill demonstration of students.
(2) Video Feature on Life of Buddha Produced by Myanmar Inforithm Ltd
Distributed
A ceremony to distribute video feature on the life of
Buddha produced by Myanmar Inforithm Ltd under the
supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs was
held at the Hotel Equatorial on 9 January. Minister
for Religious Affairs emphasize the fact that the
life of Buddha written by Ashin Janakabhivamsa was put
on CD ROM in four languages: Myanmar, English, Chinese
and Japanese, and was first distributed on 31 July
1999. He said youths of Myanmar Inforithm Ltd made
efforts for propagation of Buddhist Sasana at home
and abroad. Though the CD ROM was not economically
feasible it contributes toward propagation of
Buddhist Sasana. Managing Director U Chit Tun Pe
reported on characteristics of the tape. Chairman of
Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt presented 10,000 tapes to Minister for
Education. Minister for Religious Affairs then
handed over tapes to ministries which had ordered
them.
(3) Myint Thaung Still leading in Sixth Leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour
A ceremony to present prizes to winners of the 6th
Leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour sponsored by Rothmans
of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte. Ltd. and organized by
Myanmar Golf Federation (MGF) and Myanmar
Professional Golfers Association was held at
Shwenattanug Cantonment Golf Club in Mawlamyine, Mon
State on 9 January. General Manager Mr. Koh Tai Hong
of Tiger Beer presented prize to Than Naing who scored
hold-in-one from a distance of 163 yards at Hole No 7
on 7 January. President of MGF Presented first, second
and third prizes to Zaw Paing Oo ( Communications),
Than Naing (Agriculture) and Than Aung in the men's
amateur level respectively. U Myint Thein of Rothmans
of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte. Ltd presented a cheque as
reward to three time champion Myint Thaung.
Government of Myanmar Releases An Expelled-NLD Member
The Government is pleased to announce that U Moe Thu
(a) U Sein Myint, a member of the National League for
Democracy Party , who was expelled from the NLD with a
charge of misconduct , was released under a clemency
granted him by the Government . U Moe Thu , (62)
years, was arrested on June 18, 1996 for rallying
crowds in the name of NLD without the prior permission
from the concerned and also conducting ceremonies
and gatherings without prior permission from the
authorities concerned , breaching the section 10(A)
of the ''Law Protecting The State From Destructive
Elements''.
An application was submitted by U Moe Thu for his
release on humanitarian grounds of the demise of his
wife on December 13, 1999 and having been left of
three children unattended by the family. Upon
consideration of the applicant's humanitarian factors
the Government granted a clemency to U Moe Thu on
January 3, 2000 and extended all possible assistance
to the family.
