Health Research Paper Reading Session Opens

    Health Research Paper Reading  Session of the Ministry of Health was 
opened at the Institute of Nursing (Yangon) on 10 January with  an address by 
Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and 
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. Also present were ministers, senior 
officials, personnel of social organizations, directors-general, rectors, 
advisors, deputy directors-general,
professors, directors and medical superintendents of the Ministry of Health, 
researchers, resource  persons and  guests. In his address the Secretary-1 
stated that  "health research paper reading sessions are held every
year as a result of efforts of health researchers and they contribute 
much to the efforts of the Government for  development of 
medical science and providing sufficient health care services to 
national people.  Arrangements have been made to extend 
hospitals and dispensaries, turn  out proficient doctors, nurses and 
midwives, to enhance efficiency of hospitals and dispensaries and to 
provide efficacious medicine  and modern medical equipment and 
to fill vacancies for specialists. Medical seminars and 
workshop are being held, institutes have been established to produce 
nurses and mid wives and encouragement is being given 
to enable scholars and doctors to continue their studies.
 
    As the first step of plans for the progress of health research the Health 
Research Department ( Lower Myanmar)  and the Health Research 
Department  ( Upper Myanmar) were organized. The two departments 
should extend research in teaching, treatment and health care to 
enable the health research work to cover  the entire Myanmar. 
Medical experts and researchers  should uplift their 
education and skills to fulfil the requirements  of the 21st Century. 
Health research should be conducted  to ensure effectiveness in solving 
health related problems,  efficiency  in using the nation's 
human resources, emergence of quality health care services 
and equity among all the people of towns, villages, hills, plains, the rich 
and the poor in enjoying health care services. Attention is to be paid to the 
development of research work which will solve the health problems in accord 
with Myanmar traditions and culture and Myanmar nature. While  accepting  
sincere assistance from friendly countries and international 
non-government  organizations, all should strive for conducting 
research on selfreliance basis".
