(1) Standard Medicines to be Distributed
184 kinds of standard medicines manufactured by Myanmar Pharmaceutical
Factory will distribute to the public at reasonable price to stop unlawful
pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises, protect the public from the danger
of bogus medicines and expose and prohibit unlawful pharmaceutical
enterprises. Medicines copying the ones manufactured by the State owned
pharmaceutical factory is now threatening the public health, and therefore,
it is required to ward off the danger of the unlawful pharmaceutical
enterprises as a national concern.
(2) 504 Acres of Poppy Plantations Destroyed in Pinlaung
The State Peace and Development Council is resolved to eradicate narcotic
drugs as national duty, combined teams comprising members of Tatmadaw
(Defence Services) columns, local intelligence units and Myanmar Police Force
have been destroying illegal poppy plantations in remote areas of Shan State
with the arrangements of local military commands. Pa-O National
Organizations (NPO) of Shan State (South) Special Region 6, together with
local people, destroyed 504 acres of illegal poppy plantations in Pinlaung
Township, Shan State (South), from 17 to 25 December 1999.
(3) UMEHL Gems, Jade Sales
Gem and jade sales of Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited
continued on 11 January at Myanmar Gems Mart in Yangon from 9 am to 5 pm. A
total of 478 local merchants and 56 foreign merchants checked the gems and
jade on 1 January.
