Heroin worth Taka four million seized in Bangladesh

Police in Bangladesh today seized 500 grams of heroin and nabbed a man
who was travelling from an Indian border town to Dhaka. Acting on a tip
off, Rajbari police searched the body of one Mr. Israfil Moral and
recovered the drug from beneath his undergarment. According to police,
the current value of the seized heroin is about Taka four million
(Burmese
currency 28 million Kyats worth).

Mr. Israfil Moral was travelling by a Dhaka-bound bus of Shohag
Paribahan from Benapole, Indian border town.

On 7 March this year, the police in Mongola seized 290 grams heroin and
arrested three persons including two Indian nationals. The seized drug
is estimated to be of Taka 11.5 crore and they carried the drug from
India.

Police records show that in 1992, top standard-quality heroin 3
kilograms were seized by police from three women foreigners in Dhaka.
One is an American and the other two were Nigerians.
