Myanmar, India look to check ultras

NEW DELHI, Nov. 16 ? India and Myanmar will discuss tomorrow an
institutional mechanism for border management and checking insurgency in
the North-east.

There is no shift on India?s position on Aung San Suu Kyi. But India is
looking towards the military regime in Myanmar to tighten the vigil on
the border. India?s stand has always been not to interfere in the
internal matters of other countries.

This is first time since the military come to power in Burma a decade
ago that a high level delegation is visiting India.

The discussions, with focus on curbing cross-border insurgency and drug
trafficking, will be held between Gen Maung Aye, Myanmar?s chief of army
staff and vice-chairman of the ruling State Peace and Development
council and India Leaders.

Gen Aye, heading a 16-member high-level delegation, arrived in India on
14 November for  a week-long visit. He begins his state visit tomorrow
with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Delegation includes the country?s deputy prime minister, Lt Gen Tin
Hla, also the minister for military affairs, and ministers for foreign
affairs, finance, commerce, power, science & technology and industry.
The two countries will sign a credit line of $15 million for purchase of
Indian goods. India is Myanmar?s largest export market.
