Search by Assam Rifles along border

AIZAWL, DEC. 31 The Assam Rifles have mounted search operations in the
areas bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar following reports of possible
attempts by insurgents to create disturbances during the festive season
in Mizoram.
The State Government recently issued a circular that some "miscreants"
counld create communal disturbance during the Christmas season. In a bid
to check the movement of rebels along the Mizoram border, the Assam
Rifles have launched search operations, besides establishing several
mobile vehicle checkpoints along the international border, an Assam
Rifles spokesperson said.
Terming the stepped up vigil "routine", the spokesperson said that there
was information that the NSCN (IM) could use Mizoram as a corridor to
carry arms from Southeast Asia to its hideouts in Nagaland and Manipur.
