"The agriculture sector (including livestock and fisheries) constitutes about 28 per cent of Myanmar?s gross domestic product and 61 per cent of the total employment. Moreover, 70 per cent of Myanmar?s population still lives in rural areas and remains highly dependent on small-scale agriculture (crops, livestock, fishing). Rural poor suffer insufficient access to food and nutrition. Climate change has already challenged the agriculture sector in Myanmar by affecting rice yields and livestock production, while disasters such as floods and cyclones have caused massive destruction in rural areas..."
