'' In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,— (1) “ effects ” incudes clothes and documents ; (2) “ foreign-going ship ” means a ship, not being a home-trade ship. employed in trading between any port in the Union of Burma and any other port or place ; (3) “ home-trade ship ” means a ship employed in trading between any ports in the Union of Burma or between any port in the Union of Burma and any port or place in India or Pakistan or in the Straits Settlements, or in the Island of Ceylon ; (4) “ master ” includes every person (except a pilot or harbour-master) having command or charge of a ship ; (5) “ Merchant Shipping Acts ” means the Merchant Shipping Acts, 1894—1932; “ passenger ” includes any person carried in a ship other than the master and crew and the owner, his family and servants, but does not include any persons on board the ship either in pursuance of the obligation laid upon the master to carry ship-wrecked, distressed or other persons, or by reason of any circumstance which neither the master nor the owner could have prevented or forestalled...''
