"Our goal is to eliminate illiteracy in the Karen people, so as to give them independence, enable them to help their families, and encourage them to become more involved with community affairs. The Literacy and Non-Formal Education project was established in 2001 to provide opportunities for illiterate people in the camps to learn to read and write. The classes are offered to both men and women, but our focus has always been on women."
