Pyithu Hluttaw 2 June, 2015: MP urges completion of Dawei deep seaport [incl. Classes & matriculation exam+teacher-studen ratio]

Description:

"Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June— Development of the Dawei deep seaport in southern Myanmar is behind schedule, while the government should be doing more to promote the mega-project, MP U Myint Soe from Pyawbwe Township constituency told the Pyithu Hluttaw on Tuesday. In reply, Deputy Minister for Transport U Han Sein told the Lower House that Myanmar and Thailand made a joint announcement on the project during 21st ASEAN Summit held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in November 2012. He also said tripartite discussions among Myanmar, Thailand and Japan are under way to be able to sign a memorandum of intent. In connection with the education sector, MP U Myint Shwe from Wall Township constituency complained that classes were no longer being taught two or three months ahead of the matriculation exam in previous academic years in some schools. Deputy Minister for Education U Thant Shin said basic education school children need 75 percent attendances from June to 18 February for each academic year, but the ministry did not issue any order to stop teaching in the remaining period before the exam. U Mya Thein, MP for Bogale Township constituency, called for a suitable teacher-student ratio to ensure effective teaching. U Thant Shin replied that the ministry is certifying more teachers for understaffed schools in both states and regions."
