Resilient and low-carbon energy, transport and industrial systems for sustainable growth - Policy Guidance Brief 3

Description:

"Considering that today only 34 per cent of the population have access to electricity and 70 per cent of the people residing in rural areas remain physically isolated during part or all of the year, climate change poses a clear danger to energy access and connectivity across the country in future. Although Myanmar has a high potential to promote renewable energy and secure the growing demand for electricity, the sector is characterised by inadequate power supply infrastructure, high dependence on fuel wood in rural regions, and low electrification rates. Enhancing the country?s capacity to exploit its full energy potential and develop its transport sector in a climate-resilient and low-carbon manner is a key to its sustainable future. Myanmar will need to upgrade and retrofit existing infrastructure to reduce vulnerabilities, adapt to the changing climate and reduce emissions through greener transport systems..."
