"This paper deals with the educational cost of army rule in Burma in at least four respects. First, there is a lack of access to education due to years of neglect regarding compulsory basic education. Second, the school curriculum fails to promote skills, which are needed for the world of work as well as social life. Third, there is no provision for teaching in languages other than Burmese for children whose mother tongue is not Burmese.
