(1)		Inter-Sectoral Meeting on Treatment of Malaria by Traditional Medicine
Begins

		Inter-Sectoral Meeting on Treatment of Malaria by Traditional Medicine was
opened at the Traditional  Medicine Department on U Wizaya Road on 21 January
with an address delivered by Minister for Health. WHO Resident Representative
also made a speech. Technicians from departments under the Ministry of Health
and the Ministry of Science and Technology are attending in the meeting which
continues till 23 January. 

(2)		Myanmar Brewery Ltd Introduces Bold New Look of Tiger Beer

		Myanmar Brewery Ltd met the media persons and explained Tiger's winning of
World's Best Lager Beer Award and production of the Bold New Look Tiger Beer
at the brewery in Pyinmabin Industrial Zone, Mingaladon Township on 21
January. General Manager Mr. Koh Tai Hong of Myanmar Brewery Ltd gave a
speech. Brand Executive of the company explained how Tiger Beer won the
World's Best Lager Beer Award and production of the Bold New Look Tiger Beer.
Tiger Beer emerged champion in 1998 International Beer Competition held in
London. It also won gold medal in Bottled and Tin Beer Competition.

(3)		Over 210,000 Stimulant Tablets Seized in Lashio

		Acting on the information, a combined team comprising members of regional
battalions and units, intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force searched a
white Pajero 2Kha/7763, which was to leave Lashio for Mandalay, at Sint-in
check point in Lashio, Shan State (North), on 14 January. The group arrested
Kyaw Thu (a) Li Kwan Yon of Laukkai and Kyaw Kyaw (a) Ar Hwa together with W Y
brand 213,800 stimulant tablets hidden under the floor of the car. Driver Li
Chan and car owner Ar Hwa (a) Ran Sun Hwa escaped. Lashio No.1 MPF Station is
taking action against the culprits under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic
Substances Law.

(4)		Over 140 Kilos of Opium Seized in Phakant 

		Acting on information, a combined team including members of regional
battalions and units, intelligence unit, Myanmar Police Force and departmental
personnel raided vegetable truck terminal of Kyauk-thway-taung Market, Phakant
Township, Kachin State, on 15 January. They arrested Ma Bauk, 35,  Tatkon

Village-tract, Myitkyina Township, together with 95 packets of opium weighing
142.897 kilos hidden among orange baskets, cabbage bags and jaggery boxes.
Phakant Township MPF Station is taking action against the culprit under the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Law.

(5)		Language Laboratory and Accessories Presented to Ministry of Foreign
Affairs

		The People's Republic of China presented Language Laboratory and Accessory
Equipment to Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry on 21 January.
Ambassador of People's Republic of China presented the language laboratory and
accessory equipment to Minister for Foreign Affairs. Minister expressed thanks
for the presentation.

(6)		Members of Naga Armed Group (NNC) Exchange Arms for Peace

		After realizing the correct objectives, endeavours and sincere good-will of
the Government members of armed groups are exchanging arms for peace
individually or in groups. At 10 pm  on 8 January, deputy commanding officer L
Bita Manhsaja (a) Zaw Zaw of No 2 Battalion of Naga armed group (NNC),
exchanged arms for peace at Tactical Operations Command in Khamti through the
Chairman of Hsinthe Village Peace and Development Council. Regional Tactical
Operations Commander and local people warmly welcomed him and helped meet his
basic needs. Similarly, a six-member group of No 2 Battalion of NNC under the
command of commanding officer John (a) Ram Hsaung, exchanged arms for peace on
20 November 1998. The group includes three NNC members and three members of
their families. Two daughters of John (a) Ram Hsaung also exchanged arms for
peace on 7 December 1998. Similarly, Second Lieutenant Mechi, warrant officer
Pohaing and private Waing of the same armed group, together with six family
members, exchanged arms for peace on 26 December 1998. There are other armed
group members who will exchange  arms for peace.
