YANGON (July 10) XINHUA - The State Peace and
Development Council (SPDC) of Myanmar has enacted a
law on overseas employment, the official New Light of
               Myanmar newspaper reported Saturday.

The law, enacted on Friday, is composed of 11 chapters
including those on objectives, registration, duties and
rights
of workers and offenses and penalties.

This is the first time Myanmar has enacted a Law Relating
to
Overseas Employment since the country regained its
               independence in 1948.

The objectives of the Law are to enable the beneficial
and
               systematic utilization of human resources of the state;
to
enable those seeking overseas employment to get
employment opportunities; to ensure there is no loss of
the
rights and privileges of workers and that they receive
the
rights they are entitled to; and to enable the systematic
utilization within the country of the knowledge
experience
               and skills gained abroad.

Under the law, the Overseas Employment Central Committee
(OECC) with the minister for Labor as its chairman will
be
formed to lay down related policies. The Overseas
Employment Supervisory Committee will also be formed to
implement the policies laid down by OECC and recruit and
select workers for overseas employment under
               arrangements.
