(1)   Efforts required to develop mining sector for development
        of national economy, uplift of living standards
            
YANGON, 25 Oct - The Ministry of Mines this morning held the second 
four-monthly meeting for 1999 to assess the accomplishments during the second 
four-month period and to seek means to exceed the targets in the third four 
months at the ministry; it was addressed by Secretary-l of the State Peace 
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged departmental personnel and entrepreneurs 
to strive to develop the mining sector in view of enhancing national economic 
growth, modernizing the nation and uplifting the living standards of the 
national races, to produce industrial raw minerals and minerals used in 
manufacturing industrial machines, to make efforts for the flourishing of 
local joint-ventures in the gems and mineral sectors with the participation 
of national entrepreneurs, to find new mineral deposits, to boost production 
of mineral resources and to manufacture value-added finished goods.

(2)   Secretary-1 welcomes competitors of Seventh Myanmar
      Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Compections
            
YANGON, 25 Oct - A ceremony to welcome competitors of the Seventh Myanmar 
Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition from states and divisions 
was held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road this evening, attended 
by Patron of Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competition 
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.


The Secretary-1, together with officials of the State Peace and Development 
Council Office, arrived at the National Theatre at 4.15 pm.

        
The Secretary-l had a cordial meeting with members of the Panel of Patrons of 
Organizing the Seventh Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts 
Competition, members of the Leading Committee and subcommittees, managers and 
competitors from states and divisions.


Then, the Secretary-1 cordially conversed with doyen artistes, members of the 
central panel of judges and members of the panel of judges from states and 
divisions .

(3)   Deputy Prime Minister meets Malaysian entrepreneurs
    
YANGON, 25 Oct -Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun met Chairman Lt-Gen Raja 
Dato Abdul Rashid (Royal Malaysian Army)(R)of Ayer Molk Rubber Production and 
MOCOM Communication of Malaysia and party who called at his office this 
morning.


Also present at the call were officials of the Government Office.

(4)   Minister inspects textile mills
    
YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, together with Deputy 
Minister, Managing Director of Myanmar Textile Industries and officials, 
visited Textile Mill No 6 in Mayangon Township this morning.


The minister inspected the building to be transferred to the entrepreneurs 
and removal of looms from that building.


Then, the minister met with the mill manager and officials, and gave 
instructions on requirements for systematically transferring the building to 
the entrepreneurs and conveying and installation of machinery.


Afterwards, the minister, the deputy minister and party went to Textile Mill 
No 10 in Mayangon Township.


The minister inspected machinery conveyed from Textile Mill No 6 and 
installation of machinery and weaving work.


Later, the minister met with officials, and gave instructions on installation 
and storage of machinery without causing any adverse effects on production 
work and taking measures against loss and wastage.

(5)   Welding Course No 2 opened

YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi attended the opening 
ceremony of Welding Course NO 2 at the training school of No l Oil Refinery 
(Thanlyin) this morning.


The minister opened the course and made a speech.

Altogether 16 trainees from factories of Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise are 
attending the eight-week course.


After the ceremony, the minister and party inspected the test-run of the tar 
factory in the compound of No1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin).


The minister gave instructions on opening of the factory earlier than 
scheduled and production of tar.

(6)   Tatmadaw Track & Field Meet concludes
    
YANGON, 25 Oct - On behalf of the Commander in-Chief of Defence Services, 
Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than gave an opening speech at 
the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services? Shield Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and 
Air) Track & Field Meet at Aung San Stadium this morning.


Among the spectators were Military Appointments, Minister for Sports, Chief 
of Staff (Navy) Commodore, Chief of Staff (Air), Vice-Adjutant-General, 
Deputy Commander of Yangon Command, senior military officers, Tatmadaw 
members and families.


Altogether 24 teams took part in the meet. Officials presented prizes to 
winners.

    Yangon Command won first with 155 points in men?s event and South-West 
Command, first with 121 points in women?s event.


On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander of Yangon 
Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than presented championship shields to respective 
prize-winning teams.

(7)   Minister meets ambassador, entrepreneurs
        
YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than met Ambassador of 
Germany Dr Marius Haas and Project 0fficer Dr Larry Wong and party of Bern?s 
Group of Malaysia who separately called at his office this afternoon.


Also present at the calls were advisers, Director-General of Border Trade 
Department, Managing Director of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading, 
Ministry of Commerce and officials.

(8)   Training in Research Methodology in Traditional
        Medicine opened
    
YANGON, 25 Oct - A ceremony to open the Training in Research Methodology in 
Traditional Medicine co-organized by Ministry of Health and World Health 
Organization was held at the meeting hall of Traditional Medicine Department 
on U Wizara Road this morning, attended by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket 
Sein.

The minister gave an opening speech.


Altogether 50 in-service traditional medicine practitioners are attending the 
course which will last up to till 27 October.

       of Ajanta Pharma Ltd

YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung received 
Vice-President of Ajanta Pharma Ltd Mr Ashish Kejdiwal and party of India who 
called at his office this morning.

YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin met 
Ambassador of Germany Dr Marius Haas who called at his office this morning.


Also present at the call were Deputy Minister, Director-General of 
Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Managing Director of Myanma Hotels and 
Tourism Services and officials.

(11)  Minister attends Buddha Pujaniya of Kyaikkalunbum 
        Pagoda in Danubyu
    
YANGON, 25 Oct - Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun, together 
with members of Danubyu Township Association (Yangon), attended Buddha 
Pujaniya of Kyaikkalunbum Pagoda in Danubyu yesterday morning. 


The minister and party offered fruits and lights to the Buddha image.


In the afternoon, the minister and old students of Danubyu Township 
Association (Yangon) attended second respects-paying ceremony of Danubyu 
Basic Education High School.


Then, the minister and party made donations to the teachers.

(12)  61 members resign from Khabaung Township NLD

YANGON, 25 Oct-Sixty-one members resigned from the National League for 
Democracy of Khabaung Township, Ayeyawady Division.


Sixty-one members of Khabaung Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own 
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty 
Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 27 September 
1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
